Many good things!

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 12, 2009, 10:43 PM
So, today was a very good day. Started slightly iffy, but only missed the very beginning of Ponyo. Then went for Chinese with friends because it made us crave noodles. And then there was some silliness involving the internet, and cats (and cat-induced allergies fortunately not mine but unfortunately my sweetie's), and finding the supertanfabulous picture "You curse like a sailor" by pertainingtocats which is full of win and makes me feel fuzzy (Seconf Nature Fan art, I feel so loved!), and then random conversations about making Warhammer armor which lead to research on props and costumes and industrial polyurethane and now I so want to start a geeky business with my friends and make silly clothes and prop weaponry.
This must happen.
It must. It would preserve the sanity slowly dripping from my ears from dealing with insane customers and cash registers and everything that sucks about low-level employment. I have a fucking degree in Theatrical Costumes, it's about time I figured out a way to use it. Which sounds angry, but I'm not. I'm-humming- with ill-concealed excitement at the prospect of doing something I actually like and seeing if I can actually make money from it. Eeeeeeeeaaaaaah! XD

We really, really need a name. We need to make things too, of course, but a name would make it all so much more concrete.

Oh, yeah, and I've figured out my Halloween costume. And it's nearly my birthday. I think the possibility of the coolest job ever is a pretty nifty present, don't you?

:blackrose: if I were a Nosferatu.
:iconlazyartisan:
Progressing... very.... slowly..... Like a brian-damaged tree sloth. :P
:iconedensblood:
Second Nature is brilliant. I stayed up until four in the morning last night and it's all your fault. Eagerly awaiting more and I know this will be one of those fics I'll reread.
:iconlazyartisan:
Well thank you kindly. Or do I mean I'm sorry? The next chapter isM/i> forthcoming- just very, very slowly. ;)
:iconedensblood:
Definitely a thank you. Like I said, you are an amazing writer. As for the next chapter, I'm torn between 'take your time and write it well' or 'gimme nownowNOW!'
:iconlokicat2002:
While the real world is probably keeping you plenty busy, and an entertaining fanfic writer is doing her readers a favor by writing at all, I cannot help but sadly and perhaps selfishly note that it has been about seven weeks since your last update. Need we, your faithful readers despair?
On a side note, if you haven't done so yet, be sure to read Embers on FF.net. It's very good and occasionally reminds me of Second Nature just a bit and in a good way.
:iconlazyartisan:
No despairing, please. The frying pan of writer's block hit me upside the head and I've been distracted by other, hmmm, obligations as well. (And just plain distractions) Unfortunately writing is not the only thing I do, and creativity doesn't flow on demand. (sigh). If I could do fun stuff all the time and never have to go to work or wash dishes or need sleep.... yeah. There is progress being made, however, which should give you hope. Tomorrow evening, though, is reserved for pumpkin surgery, and as much as I would love to give everybody a Halloween present I don't want to set a deadline and then fail to reach it.

Speaking of distractions and all, I'll keep that story in mind but not rush off to find it just yet...
:iconlokicat2002:
I was just rereading chapter 17 of Second Nature when it occurred to me to wonder if you are partial to St. John's gospel. This story strikes me as having a very Johanine sensibility to it. Off hand examples: Zuko practically embodies the imbalanced/darkened world into which he was born HIS FATHER IS EVEN A SATAN FIGURE; he is in desperate need of grace, but doesn't comprehend it; he doesn't know how to deal with Grace when she's expressing grace I DETECT SYMBOLISM AND PARALLELISM HERE; he clings to his pain because he doesn't know what would be left. It seems to me it would mean he would have to be made new.
All Johanine themes.

My current influence is Loopy's wonderful Mai's Ramblings :) not that I do them justice.
:iconlazyartisan:
Um, if you're seeing this it's most likely coincidence, albeit a fascinating one. I do know Loopy, though.

I'm trying to keep the story rooted in Eastern philosophy and belief systems, although of course my own Western sensibilities do crop up, as does a fair bit of basic psychology. Ze/Grace does mean that kind of grace and not the opposite of clumsiness.;) I was using her as a symbol for something slightly different- I think. Keep in mind that she and Hoshi are both essentially devotees/disciples of Guan Yin, the Boddhisattva of compassion.

Might have to come back to this later when i have more time to discuss it. Hey, at least it's a more interesting take than the (I suspect) high school freshman insisting Mai was hiding behind a Nuremberg defense... sigh.
